I know i've been a jerk for not posting a lot on this blog.
You know, it's been a bit confusing for me lately, since i don't really see the point in continuing this blog anymore. But that doesn't mean i'll stop blogging--i love blogging, don't get me wrong. I just think that THIS BLOG is not the kind of blog that's right for me.

So, the story continues, and i made a new blog. It's going to be updated a lot, i swear. I think this blog is right for me. It will still consist of fashion and design, but it will highlight lots of my life stories (don't worry, they're not melancholy stuffs, i hate melancholy) with random photographs to illustrate my writing.

Am i the only one who's not that into Christmas?

Okay, that was a really bad opening. But hey, i'm not a hypocrite (and i'm not saying that you are). You see, on Christmas, every single people (Yes. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them) talks about how they love the vibe of Christmas and apparently they tweet it, too. Okay, i know, it's the last month of the year, it's December, you don't get any piles of white snow in Indonesia, and every single mall in town is filled with those fancy Christmas ornaments and a huge *cough* show-off *cough* Christmas tree.

Don't get me wrong. I do love the vibe. Well, i don't hate it. But, i don't know, maybe i'm just a little too individualistic. At this kind of event (Christmas, Lebaran, stuffs...), you usually have the "duty" to give a visit to your big family. And it's kind of a bore. All i want is just to enjoy Christmas in my own home, sipping coffee and probably arranging the Christmas tree, but every year it's "gathering and awkward talks". I mean, who wants "gathering and awkward talks"?

But who am i to complain? After all these hectic months, i can't believe how the Universe has given me so many things i want and need, often without me asking. Sure, i had experienced some bitter stuffs, but when you believe in God and the Universe (yes, i do believe in the power of the Universe. We have a special connection, and i think It likes to laugh on me), you won't regret that it happened, because you know the old saying: "Everything happens for a reason", and apparently, i think that's not wrong at all.

So all i'm saying is, i'm really grateful for all these months, for all these years. To who, or what? Well, everyone, everything, even the people who has the tiniest share of your life experience is there for some reason, you know, and it's something to be grateful for.

But what am i saying, without further ado, MERRY CHRISTMAS and here are some photos i shot to make me feel a little bit "European Christmas" (oh, God, that's the dream).

It Was Certified Creeper

Ever since i saw those unique creepers designed by Miuccia Prada for Prada Spring/Summer 2011 i immediately fell in love and wanted a pair. But i'd never found the right pair--either it was uncomfortable and cheaply made, or simply too high of a price.

But search no more! I found these creepers when the local brand June + Julia tweeted about their new shoe design. I immediately ordered them and the next 2 weeks, i got them. People lilke to stare at them, probably because they have much novelty--not all people think creepers are nice. But whatever, i wear what i like, and if people don't like them, just say, "Oh, you just don't understand." *and then they'll get cranky haha!*

This white dress is Nikicio, and i bought it for only Rp 100.000 in Brightspot Market. Real bargain, that is. I wore this to the church on Christmas Eve and i just felt dreamy. I feel so holy! (even though i'm not).

Anyway, sorry for the lack of post. Have i mentioned that BLANCTERIA is having a new concept in January? Well, i'm working on it, and it's going to be cool. I'll make sure i'll post about the launch here!

Eventually, after all the busy-ness i myself intentionally asked for, the buzz has finally worn itself out. That's what i thought. After one week absent from all classes in college regarding of my interning as a media relation in Jakarta Fashion Week 2012, i *sigh* became a regular college kid again. By regular, i mean coming late to class and sitting in the back with my face staring at my tablet, playing those omnipresent Angry Birds Rio (i repeat the same level over and over and over again until i succeed. Oh wait, you do that, too?) while trying to listen to what the lecturer is trying to say (writer's note: please don't try this method--IT DOESN'T WORK).

Yet when you think that college life would be a piece of cake, it's not anymore, and probably it'll stay that way forever. Ever since i have BLANCTERIA, i started to see things in quite a different way. You start to see a tree as an inspiration, you see a pile of bricks as a background for your lookbook photoshoot, and you're constantly trying to understand how a piece of cloth is made. Designing--even in my i-know-nothing-about-sewing level--is hard. But you know what--it's enjoyable. Because as a creative director of a clothing line, you get a chance to 'create' fantasy. A fantasy which you can wear. For example, for BLANCTERIA's new collection (and also new concept yaaaay!!! Keep updated! #Shameless) for Spring / Summer next year, i took Catholic's nun as an inspiration. I somehow find a bit of mystery in their clothing, only black and white color involved, and most parts of the body are hidden behind the fabric. I then wanted to create something different. Yes, i know my inspiration is a nun, but the pieces don't have to cover all your body. But i won't explain too much here. Just wait for new collection next year, it's gonna be cool.

Hello.

This is--after days of procrastinating--a chance for me to tell you what i've been doing for the last few days (and the reason why i'm lacking of updates). I'm currently doing an internship at Jakarta Fashion Week 2012 as a media relation staff, and don't you "ooh" and "aah" thinking that it's a glamorous thing or what, because it's really not like that. I'm not saying i don't like this--i do like it, but probably "PR girl" is not really my thing. I'm more of a writer, a person who runs from places to places, taking pictures of the show and the crowd, reporting things, playing with words... Yeah, that's more 'me'. But nonetheless, i get to experience working in a fashion industry, even though only as an intern. And Jakarta Fashion Week? The biggest fashion event in Indonesia? I mean, not all people can be in this position i'm in. So i'm still very grateful. I know this experience is going to be one of my valuable lessons to get in the fashion industry. This is the industry i want to spend my life in.

Other than that, i was busy doing 'damn-you-never-ending' midterm exams. I study media communication, and apparently it consists of much analyzing, not only the media, but also the 'world'--capitalism, globalization...... stuffs that are not that easy to digest (i like it, though).

Oh, and i'm also busy with my clothing line, BLANCTERIA (check it out! Check it out!). I'm currently preparing for a new concept that's going to be launched in early 2012, and trust me, it's going to be cool. But i won't say much for now. Just wait for it, and you probably want to follow the timeline (@BLANCTERIA), because you'll never know when i'm too busy to give updates about the new collection and the new concept here.

To be honest, there are many things i'm doing in the meantime, but i don't have much time. You know, i think besides global warming, there is also global shrinking. TIME IS SHRINKING, PEOPLE, and blame technology and the economy for that!
Ehm.. I guess i'm just too sleepy, or drunk (of donuts). Time for me to sleep! You guys should too!

Really sorry for the lack of updates, people. I guess i'm just too addicted to strobist technique (a less expensive technique in photography which uses an off-camera flash to create greater photos in a generally easier way) since i've bought a couple of strobist tools (strobe, mini softbox, white umbrella, etc.). And i'd been busy with my clothing line, BLANCTERIA, which has just launched its second collection (go check it out!).

Here are a few self photos using only an external flash, a plain white background, and a white umbrella. I personally love the effect. What do you think?

I never really prepare anything for a style photoshoot of myself. I don't do makeups, i don't really brush my hair, and sometimes i do the photoshoot in the middle of the night when insomnia starts striking me again like an annoying drama queen who wants attention *sorry for the hyperbolic statement*.

These photos are quite like that. These were quick and quite fun to do because i used an external flashgun (notice the bright light in the photo) and experimented with it. And i got nothing else to do, so here they are.

Why did i put that headband on my head and forgot to take it off? I don't know, maybe because it felt great to not having your blunt bangs annoy you all the time.

Do you ever turn upside down on your bed, waiting 2 hours just to sleep, and fail? Well, doh, you must have. In this internet age, who doesn't? Like my friend said, "Internet is the new caffeine". Oh you're damn right, boy. But thanks to the insomnia, i finally post something.

I love the colour khaki. Besides black, white, gray, beige (and possibly just about all neutral colours out there), anyway. I don't know, possibly it is just like black--it can match with--well, not everything--but many many things. And oh, i just bought this wide-brimmed hat for only $5.

And i was in the mood for a little adventurous ethnical look, yet still giving that modern vibe. So pardon the messy indian necklace. It was my besftriend's necklace, which i never thought of giving it back. We swap so many things! I bet she keeps about 5-10 stuffs from my wardrobe.

I wouldn't be this happy if i really wore it outside. I think people here are just low on entertainment. I didn't wear any pants or hosieries (except socks) because i'm just too lazy to put on a decent pants in the middle of the night.

AT LAST.. After all those hardworking days and sleepless nights, tiring photoshoots with huge heavy camera on my hands, designing clothes and searching for particular fabrics, and conflicting with my mom (like i never), BLANCTERIA is launched!

Not That Into Jeans

I'm not actually a big fan of jeans, probably because we are just not made for each other. Everytime i see a great pair of jeans, the price is way too high. Or they just don't fit me right. Or i don't like the color. Or the wash is ugly. Or my mom said 'no'. Whatever the reason is, i just can't find the right jeans. What is it with me and jeans?! I don't know. But probably it's just not my time. Yet.

But today i went to Central Park Jakarta (no it's not like Central Park on New York--it's a shopping center, a mall, damn it), and there was ZARA, and there was a big sale, and it was crowded, and i went in. And it all got really quick and blurry. All i know is i managed to snatch a white basic shirt for only Rp 79,9k (i need that) and a deep blue jegging for about Rp 300k or something. And it fits well.

But i'm stupid. I forgot what happened the last time i bought pants with elastic waistband. They wore out. They got bigger than they were the first time i saw them until i'm too discouraged to even look at 'em. And now i'm making the same mistake. I should've taken a smaller size.

ANYWAY... Here are pictures of me working the jeggings. I'm going to enjoy it while it last.

100th POST!

Okay, i know that's not an achievement or even something to brag about, but WHATEVER, making 100 posts in only a single blog is not easy, people! I can think of 100 distractions to pull me away from posting, such as wasting my (life) time watching cheesy Nickelodeon shows (which i like), doing my work (yes, i've been keeping myself busy with stuffstuff--wait for the surprise on late August!), or chatting with my friend (which always drives me mad because of the SHITTY SIGNAL *hello, providers, hear me!*). So it's a battle against procrastination and other stuffs, so i consider it an achievement.

I'm sorry, but artsy people don't clean (okay this is just an annoying excuse because i'm so freakin' lazy to even put things on place where they should be! That's why i keep missing things)

A Trip to Monas

One day i decided to take a visit to Monas (the "Monumen Nasional" of Indonesia). For those who don't know what Monas is, it is a memorial building shaped like a slim tower with a fire shape at the very top of it. The cool thing is that fire shape was layered with pure gold coat and weighs 14,5 tons--the gold weighs 35 kilograms (yeah. Wow).

From what i see, i think Monas is a tragedy. It is huge and was meant to be fabulous and magnificent, but the truth is only a slew of people think that the Monas area is worth visiting. Maybe they think it's boring--national monuments always look 'old' and 'plain' and 'boring' at the first sight. I, too, have always thought that way.

But i have been thinking about the surroundings of Monas. I know the margins of Monas are also big and 'spacey', especially on weekdays. So i went there and you know, even though my feet felt weary because of the walking, i felt great. I love big places where you can even sit down on the road and take crazy pictures with no one else watching except a few confused people passing by. So my friend took these pictures of me going crazy. I love jumping photos. You can never know until you see the results! They're super, and we just couldn't get enough of it.

I even threw my bags away. You know, to move more freely.

These are the jump photos. At first, i was like "No, i think i can't do it. My face will get absurd or i'll probably stumble on something and won't make a good jump. I'll just make a fool of myself" but after a couple of jumps, i was addicted! I don't know, but maybe jumping gives you that 'pumped up' feeling and i once read an article that you cannot frown when you're doing jump ropes. Quite interesting, and it's probably true.

Forgive me. I just couldn't get enough.

What made me happy was also my outfit on that trip to Monas. I was wearing my 'casual' costume: my 'on-the-go' stripe shirt, my slouchy creme pants, and my ubiquitous black flats. But what made it much more interesting was actually the coat i was wearing. The coat is from a new local brand, CHEVAL, a brand that focuses more on trench coats. But really? Trench coats? In this city?

You see, Jakarta--i think--has the most awful weather. Everyday it is so f-ing hot i pray that the world would go crazy so i could put away all my clothes and get naked--but i can't, i know that very well. An ice cream won't even work, because the heat is burning into your skin! Well, we're survivors here.

But even on this crazy weather, we don't want to risk our fashion sense, do we? I love trench coats and i just envy to wear them on the streets, not just in the mall. So CHEVAL is kind of an answer. It's made by Indonesians and they know how cruel the weather here, so they're making trench coats in fabrics that are comfortable enough to wear here! And the price is nice, about Rp 200k or something. Go check their website to see for yourself!

At the end of the day, i still didn't get inside the Monas. But i did discover a new place to hang out and take great pictures! It will be very hot, but at least it's better than always find yourself stucked in the mall. Happy weekdays, folks!

This Is War

Last Friday, i went to Java Rockin' Land 2011 on Pantai Karnaval Ancol. I bought the ticket in the last minute. I just realized i had to go see 30 Seconds To Mars live. I just had to. So i bought the ticket.

The event was awesome. I saw some other bands, but the band that captured most of my attention was indeed Wonderbra. Their performance was like no other. They included some kind of a drama in the middle of their performance, a drama which sounded our society's problems such as greed, lust, corruption, etc. I especially adore the vocalist. She had that captivating quality, as if she was playing a role or something. And she didn't talk much. The thing that surprised me later is that she--and some other guys in the band--had studied in the same university as i am! Now that is cool.

And the last but not least was, of course, the band i'd been waiting for: 30 Seconds To Mars. My friends and i had tagged a spot and had been waiting in there for about 2 hours. It wasn't that much. Some people had already been waiting much longer than we had. When it's time for them to come out, i felt like i had goosebumps. People were already shouting and screaming as we all were waiting for the three guys (Jared, Shannon, and Tomo) to come out.

After a long wait, they finally came out. The first song they played was, if i'm not mistaken, Search and Destroy. They played all their hits such as Attack, The Kill (Bury Me), Hurricane, The Fantasy, A Beautiful Lie, This Is War, Vox Populi.... they even played L490 (i thought the end of this song is kinda freaky--try listen to it). The last song was Kings and Queens. And it was powerful and stunning.

A couple of days, and wow! The layout of the usually 'usual' layout of Blogger Dashboard has changed. Changed into the better, perhaps? In my opinion, it does feel a little bit more.. elegant. Modern. Sleek. Plain. But elegant.

A couple of days earlier, i went to two exciting places to get my appetite on: Ragusa and Hummingbird Eatery & Guesthouse. The first one, Ragusa, is a place where you can get homemade Italian ice cream for quite a price (around Rp 20k or something), but the taste definitely pays off. Ragusa has been on business since around 1913 and they're still on now. There's not that much of a choice of ice cream from the menu, but Ragusa has managed to keep itself alive for many years, so there's must be something that they're doing right, right? RIGHT. The ice creams are exceptional, especially the Spaghetti Ice Cream. A heavy name, yeah, but really, it's just vanilla ice cream made to look like a spaghetti--complete with the colorful fruit toppings on top--on purpose. My darkvader ordered Napoleon Ice Cream. This, of course, you all have already known. Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream in one bowl. Triple treat. Triple delicious.

And last week, my parents and i went for a little outing to Bandung, to have a little bit of culinary experience (my family and i never do much movements, we just like to keep our backs on the seat). I had been given a suggestion from a friend about this particular cute restaurant, Hummingbird Eatery & Guesthouse. I thought i want to try something different, and i've been told that their Dark Russian cake is really really good, so yep, i went there.

The appearance of the building and the interior is really something. Well, for me it's an ordinary trick for a cafe or a restaurant to boast its identification or branding, that strategy which had been used by a couple of restaurants, say, Nanny's Pavillon. But the 'hummingbird' character and a bit of Russian touch really gives something different to this eatery.

We ordered Lucifer, a savoury crepe made from buckwheat flour, served with meat patties, fried egg, honey mustard, and onion jam. The taste is unique, especially with the honey mustard, and i've always loved buckwheat-floured crepe since i tried one in Kitchenette (in Plaza Indonesia). My mom ordered a lasagna and my dad a Hamburg Steak. They were good.

Oh, and the best part is, the cake. Luckily for us, the day we got into Hummingbird was actually the day of my mom's birthday, so we got one free cake! We could choose whatever cake we like. Ha ha! My mom has always been lucky, unlike her daughter. So we ordered this Dark Russian everyone's been talking about and Rum Cherry Chocolate cake or something. I gotta tell you, the Dark Russian is exquisite. It's simply delicious. The rum tasted right into your tongue and the vanilla ice cream added a little 'tweak' to it, which made it tasted more unique. And about the other cake, it was also delicious, although i didn't really get a taste of the rum. But it was enormous. No, really, it was big. It's probably enough to serve the three of us.

I didn't think i would fall in love this much with this shawl, but i was wrong! This shawl is so versatile i feel like i could wear it with anything (not literally, of course. You wouldn't want to wear this to a wedding unless you really hate the bride. However, i think you could wear this to a funeral. You would be the most fashionable teary woman), so i wore it again.

Anyways, these pictures were taken right after i woke up this morning (by 'morning', i mean 10-11 o'clock--that's morning enough for me. Hey, a holiday isn't a holiday if you don't wake up late!). Notice the lazy eyes? Well, it's not like my eyes are that beautiful, but this one looks really sleepy! Good thing i remembered to comb my hair and pamper that blunt bang of mine first thing.

Yeah, i know. Worn out.

Have i ever told you that this blazer is one of my favourite fashion items? It's a classic, but it has that kind of quirk i love, and that is the sheer transparent sleeves. It gives something different, yet still normal enough to wear on your visit to grandma. And when i added the shawl, i just love how it went!

FAB FINDS: AQUA by Sebastian Gunawan

Since when did AQUA become so fashionable? Since now!

The mineral water brand had been around the country for many years--even our parents had been drinking it since they were little!--and quickly became the most famous brand for bottled drinking water in Indonesia (realize how we usually say "AQUA" when ordering mineral water? Yes, it's been cultivated into your minds). You might think that a huge brand like AQUA wouldn't be needing a branding strategy, but they did it! They changed the brand logo (well, they didn't really change it; they just tweaked it a bit to make it look more modern--but it's just my opinion); they created a great resourceful website full of information (about water, that is); they created a campaign to help those who suffer water scarcity... and what next?

They collaborated with one of our well-known Indonesian designer Sebastian Gunawan (or Seba, as he likes to be called). Following the collaboration of Evian and a couple of designers (such as Issey Miyake, Paul Smith and Jean Paul Gaultier), or Diet Cokes and Karl Lagerfeld, now AQUA also comes in a glass bottle which is stylish enough for the fashion-savvy. The bottle is called 'Reflections', which means 'personality that moves forward, dynamic, modern, and balanced with healthy body' (Fashionesedaily, 2011). The design resembles an image of bamboo by infusing a bamboo plaiting pattern, which also looks like batik with a modern twist.

Just look at that curve! I wish i had a body like that (ha ha ha!)

The drinking bottle is aimed for the premium market, and will only be sold in the best restaurants and cafes in town, so please don't expect to find it in a minimarket! To conclude, i personally think this is a great strategy for AQUA to get closer to the fashion people in town, and to reach a higher level of consumers. The design looks slim, elegant, and sophisticated, and it embraces the masculine side and also the feminine side. This piece would be a great collectible item.

I personally think that the design is beautiful, and would love to collect one myself. But how about you? Would you spend a greater amount of money for this drinking bottle? Or do you think this is just some kind of a fad? Tell me what you think in the comments!

I know this is kinda late, but i'm starting to like Muse--yes, yes, you don't have to give me that look. I've always liked them since i listened to their several hits, such as 'Supermassive Black Hole', 'Starlight', and 'Knights of Cydonia', but i had never really listened to them. You know when you like an artist so much, be it a musician, a painter, a graphic artist, a movie producer, a writer, or even a gardener, you just have the urge to 'feel' their creation, and try to understand what they're trying to say from their artwork.

I know this feeling very well, and not all artworks could give me that certain feeling (of course, we all have different taste and preference--you might like Miley Cyrus whose songs i couldn't stand to listen to; and you might find me odd for not loving Bruno Mars--he's lying when he said he'd catch a grenade for ya!). I have this feeling when i hear The Verve's 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' or Tika and the Dissidents's 'Old Dirty Bastard', but not when Lady Gaga's 'Judas' is playing on my laptop (i still love the song, though; the 'Juda-Juda-a-as' part just couldn't get out of my head!).

Anyway, my darkvader--yeah, let's just call him that (i mean my boyfriend)--gave me Muse's latest album, The Resistance for my birthday. I thought it was good. Plain good. But i thought 'good' was nothing for Muse--i wanted to know what makes this band one of Randy Jackson's favourite band. So i read the lyrics. And oh my, they were beautiful, and i'm not overreacting right now. I mean it when i say something's good. The lyrics, for me, are very deep. They use many kinds of phrases that are not ordinary yet still easy to understand. And i just love songs about love that are not telling it explicitly, like 'Resistance' and 'Undisclosed Desires'.

So i was thinking about the song when i took these pictures (in fact, i played the song when i was doing my mixmatch-ing session!), and this was how it went. Simple, i know, but heck, i love simple outfits. This grey shawl on my neck is from La Douche Vita--i adore this brand--which i bought in The Goods Dept. The material is not too thin, but it feels soft and comfy when you wear it. And the color is just right.

When i did this photoshoot, i wasn't really thinking of the outfit. I have the habit of putting my clothes scattered around my room, then i just saw this grey cardigan from Sash and these Melly Black Boots i just bought from June + Julia--it's a local online shop and it has quite a variety of pre-ordered shoes, and they all come with affordable prices! What makes it even better is that June + Julia ships worldwide.

Seperti kota-kota metropolitan lainnya di dunia, warga Jakarta senang berbelanja, tak hanya untuk kebutuhan pokok mereka, namun juga untuk pemuasan gaya hidup dan mode. Untuk mengakomodir kebutuhan ini, mereka pun memilih produk-produk andalan tertentu yang dianggap memiliki kualitas dan keunikan. Sayangnya, banyak dari mereka yang merasa bahwa produk-produk berkualitas berarti produk-produk yang berasal dari luar negeri, sehingga mereka lebih memilih produk-produk impor dibandingkan produk-produk dalam negeri karena alasan kualitas, model, daya tarik, prestige, dsb. Bahkan tak sedikit juga yang langsung berburu produk-produk tersebut di luar negeri. Anggapan bahwa produk lokal tidak ada yang dapat menyaingi kualitas dan kreativitas produk luar masih melekat dalam diri warga Indonesia. Benarkah begitu?

Seperti kita tahu, saat ini populasi merk fashion dan desainer lokal di Indonesia sudah bisa dibilang banyak dan beragam. Mereka datang dengan konsep-konsep unik dan produk-produk yang tak kalah kualitasnya dengan produk luar negeri, bahkan banyak di antara mereka yang menawarkan item yang terbatas jumlahnya sehingga ada rasa eksklusivitas saat seseorang memakai item tersebut. Model yang ditawarkan juga tak kalah unik. Namun mengapa para konsumen di Jakarta masih saja lebih memilih untuk membeli produk luar negeri dibandingkan produk lokal?

Menurut saya, alasan pertama adalah kurangnya ‘nilai’ produk lokal dibandingkan ‘nilai’ produk impor di mata konsumen Jakarta. Produk luar negeri masih dianggap lebih terpercaya hanya karena.. yah, itu berasal dari luar negeri. Industri lokal masih dianggap kurang kompeten, kurang berkualitas, dsb. oleh sebagian besar konsumen Indonesia. Akibatnya produk lokal sering dilihat sebelah mata oleh penduduk lokal sendiri.

Alasan kedua adalah kurang memadainya informasi tentang produk-produk lokal tersebut. Kualitas, kreativitas, eksklusivitas, daya pakai, daya saing, dan eksekusi yang baik sudah dimiliki oleh produk-produk lokal ini, namun bila hanya sedikit yang tahu tentang hal ini, maka semua itu tidak akan ada artinya. Dalam pandangan saya—dan saya rasa para pecinta mode juga akan setuju—seseorang tidak hanya mempertimbangkan hal-hal di atas saat membeli suatu produk, tetapi juga mempertimbangkan merek. Bila ada dua produk—satu merek internasional dan satunya lagi merek lokal—dengan kualitas, model, dan bahan yang hampir sama, maka hampir bisa dipastikan seseorang akan lebih memilih produk yang pertama, yakni produk bermerek internasional. Hal ini disebabkan merek internasional lebih dikenal orang, sehingga memberikan prestige tersendiri bagi orang yang membeli produknya, dibandingkan produk lokal yang mungkin hanya dikenal segelintir orang.

Dari situ muncullah pertanyaan: apakah tidak ada harapan bagi industri mode Indonesia untuk tumbuh dan dikenal masyarakat? Bagi saya, itu merupakan pertanyaan yang sangat desperate. Desainer dan fashion brand lokal dengan konsep kreatif mereka, baik yang telah ada sejak lama maupun baru lahir, memiliki potensi yang tidak bisa diabaikan begitu saja. Yang dibutuhkan sekarang adalah menyuarakan kepada khalayak muda bahwa “they do exist”.

Di sini lah kekuatan Level One berada. Level One, yang didirikan oleh Grand Indonesia Shopping Town pada bulan Juni 2010, merupakan suatu area luas yang terdiri dari banyak fashion and lifestyle brands lokal (16DS, Hunting Fields, Danjyo Hiyoji, Plastic Culture, dsb.) yang dimotori oleh desainer-desainer muda Indonesia dari berbagai bidang kreatif, mulai dari fashion sampai furnitur.

Saya melihat bahwa Level One tidak hanya menyediakan tempat sebagai ajang unjuk gigi bagi insan muda lokal yang kreatif, namun juga giat mempromosikan hasil karya anak bangsa yang tak kalah dari apa yang ditawarkan negara lain. Jelas sekali bahwa Level One bertujuan memajukan industri mode dan gaya hidup kalangan muda di Indonesia, terbukti dengan dukungannya kepada para pelaku di balik fashion and lifestyle brands lokal tersebut.

Bagi saya, Level One merupakan suatu medium yang tepat untuk menunjukkan kepada khalayak luas tentang kreativitas dan entrepeneurship anak muda lokal yang tidak kalah saing dengan desainer dan brand luar negeri. Bila Anda mendukung insan kreatif lokal serta perkembangan industri mode dalam negeri, saya rasa Anda dapat menaruh harapan besar pada Level One untuk terus mempromosikan produk-produk lokal yang tidak kalah dengan produk-produk luar negeri.

Well, actually i'm not a communist, definitely. I don't believe in communism, but i also don't believe in capitalism. Okay, don't put that dizzy face on me. Hahaha. This has been my favourite hat since high school, and still is. I don't know why--i mean i have a lot of quirky hats--but there is no other hat that could replace this hat my dad had given me from China. And i directly gave a nickname for it: "Chinese communist hat". It's ridiculous and doesn't have any basic reason for it, but something just told me that it's right.
Whatever. Anyway, sorry for the really late post. I wasn't procrastinating--i'm just busy, until now. Mid-term tests have just finished, but now i have to take care of an upcoming photography exhibition in my campus (i'm in charge of the decorations). Well, wish me luck then. Have a nice weekend!

Lately i found myself drooling over quotes. It can be anybody's, from Einstein, startupquote.com, aspiring writers, lyrics, novels, or friends on Twitter. And i don't mean the cliche-we-all-already-knew-it kinda quotes. I love sarcastic quotes, desperate quotes, smart quotes, damn right quotes, etc. I eventually found myself making personal quotes on my own. So from now on, i'll probably put on some quotes on every new posts, just hoping that they would 'spice' up the plain posts.

Have you ever had a favourite piece of clothing that everytime you look at it you just want to grab it and wear it? Well i do. It's a grey loose T-shirt i bought from Bloop Endorse (for $8 only!) 2 years ago. It has a sketch of a gorilla wearing a pair of red sunnies with one gold tooth on his face. I love monkeys and primate stuffs, and i love them when they're wearing something (such as sunglasses), and i love them even more when they're printed on fashion items!

This shirt has been a fave since forever. I wear it all the time. It's comfortable and you don't really need accessories to pull it off because the gorilla already says it all.

Oh, and yeah, this is one of my college outfits. Simple, huh?

I don't know why, but i'm feeling productive nowadays. Maybe one of the basic reasons is that it's holiday and i love being at home. And i'm not the kind of person who can just sit and watch TV or playing video games while eating potato chips. I'm used to be, but not anymore. I don't know why but i would have guilty feeling if i spend hours doing leisure activities or just having fun. Nothin' better than great food, great atmosphere, and your best friend

I had quite a rough week. No no no, it's not about college assignments (i'm on my holiday) or academic orientation (it's finally finished about 2 weeks ago! Yeay!). I've had this problem with a friend, but no, i won't dish the stories here--it's just rude. I just wanna tell you that when i had a friend problem, or a guy problem, or just any kinds of social problem that i feel worth thinking further about, i would call a particular person that i feel right and can help me solve my problems, or just to listen to what i would say and accompany through my misery. It can be anybody: my bestfriends, my hang-out friends, my parents, my frenemies, and so on.

In this case, it's my best best bestfriend in the whole wide world: Agita. She is one crazy eccentric girl and i had been friends with her for years, since... KINDERGARTEN. We hardly hang out together since we went to a different high school, but we still trust each other and still have the same way of thinking.

We decided to eat at Nanny's Pavillon in Pacific Place. For those of you who lives in Jakarta, this cute restaurant surely does ring a bell. It has a bathroom theme, with pink and lime green pallette all over the place, and it serves delicious pancakes and pastas at a very reasonable price.
So we talked for i didn't know how long. All i know is that we were laughing and teasing boys (no offense for boys) and reading magazines and laughing again. It was fun and really worthwhile. And i felt better after that.

What i mean is, don't lose your friend--that is, if you really like her/him. But if he/she keeps hurting you, please, don't lie to yourself. You know you're tired.

COPYCAT: Celine S/S 09/10 Ad Campaign

This is the first time i've ever posted personal style based on something that has been in the radar. Maybe all of you readers had forgotten that i have once said "i'm going to make a new concept out of my blog". Well this is it. I know, it's not much, but at least i'm trying to give a little 'spice' to this blog. Posts like this one are going to be labelled 'copycat', because it literally copies the style of something that has been seen in fashion industry. It can be an ad campaign, runways, pre-fall collection, you name it.

What's the point?

Well, the point is: JUST TO HAVE FUN. People usually takes fashion too seriously. I mean, come on--play it up a little bit! I love playing dress-up, and i think this is one of many ways you can do to have fun with fashion. And i hope this can be an inspiration for those who has been wanting to try different styles from ad campaigns or runways in the real world with what you have in your closet--without the fuzz, for sure.

When i first saw this blazer, i immediately fell in love. It's rare to find this kind of blazer--usually a blazer is dark-coloured and so on and so on (boring). But this one is made from TENUN (a traditional fabric originally comes from my country, Indonesia) with bright pastel colours. And the best thing is, it didn't cost me much.

Unfortunately, i realized that the size of the blazer is just too big for me. But i can manage it, right? It's just great to know that you wear something that resembles your own heritage.

I'm the kind of person who easily gets bored, especially with my hair. From time to time, i always have the urge to cut my hair if it's long enough, or to just let loose if it's short. And now i want to have long hair (after about two years having short one), so i've decided to hold my plan of cutting it. The thing that excites me is that we're literally given new chances to make up for our mistakes for the past years and--finally--try to make our resolution happen--not just forgetting it every year and then.

It's been a while since i last posted something about my personal style. Well i've had quite a tiring week (still *sigh*), and it's been so hard to find just a little time to do anything. As you can see, i'm in the final of Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 Blog Competition and i had to attend at least one show and make at least one post everyday. And i'm a college student with quite a busy schedule, so it's kinda hard for me to manage my time. But i've finally pulled it off. I just hope that i can win, but if not, it's still okay with me. Mazda merupakan nama yang tidak asing lagi di dunia otomotif. Brand dari Jepang yang senantiasa memperbaharui image-nya sebagai pionir dalam dunia otomotif ini kembali mempersembahkan 3 upcoming designers setelah tahun lalu mempertontonkan karya-karya dari Stella Rissa, Jeffrey Tan, dan Mel Ahyar. Kemudian ada Zacky Gafiki dengan koleksinya yang penuh dengan dress dan celana yang menggunakan teknik tumpuk, lipit, dan draperi. Siluet-siluetnya bervolume namun berstruktur. Koleksinya terkesan dingin namun intens dengan perpaduan warna putih, hitam, dan abu-abu, yang kemudian dikejutkan oleh semburat merah pekat. Headpiece di tiap kepala model memberi kesan misterius.

Show ditutup dengan penampilan dari Steven Huang dengan berbagai cocktail dress bersiluet tegas, berstuktur, dan memakai bahan yang kaku namun shiny. Hadir dalam warna hitam, merah, sampai ungu, teknik jahit yang digunakan membuat rangkaian koleksi busana rancangannya seperti kertas origami, sehingga setiap busana terlihat unik dan bisa menjadi alternatif dalam bergaya formil.

JFW2010/2011: APPMI (II)

Satu lagi fashion show dari desainer-desainer yang tergabung dalam APPMI (Asosiasi Perancang Pengusaha Mode Indonesia) hari Selasa, 9 November 2010 dalam rangkaian acara Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011, antara lain: Hartono Gan, Mario and Jo by Vicky Soetono, Rudy Liem, Adhyadma, Harry Lam, Dwi Iskandar, dan Yunita Kosasih yang menampilkan beragam cocktail dress dan gaun malam mewah.

Hartono Gan muncul pertama kali dengan tema "Pureness" yang selaras dengan maksud yang ingin disampaikan oleh sang desainer, yaitu menyatukan kreativitas dengan kebutuhan wanita yang sebenarnya. Oleh karena itu siluet yang ditampilkan minimalis, struktural, dan praktis. Yang juga menarik adalah luaran dengan aksen zipper, sehingga bila dilepas akan menjadi luaran yang lebih pendek.

Mario and Jo by Vicky Soetono menampilkan koleksi dengan tema "Kahve". Kahve merupakan kopi yang berwarna pekat, dipadukan dengan susu dan gula sehingga memikat setiap orang yang meminumnya, begitu juga dengan koleksi ini. Jenis busana yang ditawarkan merupakan mini dress dengan aksen bulu serta embroidery, dan perpaduan berbagai bahan dan motif seperti motif batik. Siluet yang ditawarkan membuat setiap rancangannya terkesan sangat muda, girly, dan stylish.

Rudy Liem menghadirkan koleksi yang romantis bertajuk "Curly Love", yang didominasi warna-warna pastel seperti pink, hijau muda, salem, dan kuning yang soft dengan aksen emas. Berbagai dress mini yang feminin ditawarkan dengan berbagai bahan seperti satin, taffeta, organza, dan sifon.

Setelah Rudy Liem, Adhyadma muncul dengan koleksi "Lady's Cosmo" yang seksi. Sang desainer sukses mentransformasi kain tradisional Tenun Cual Corak Ingsan dari Kalimantan Barat menjadi busana modern yang elegan dan dinamis.

Inspirasi berbeda datang dari koleksi Harry Lam yang bertajuk "The Great Taj Mahal". Koleksi busana yang ditawarkan pun selaras dengan karakteristik Taj Mahal, yaitu megah, agung, elegan, dan indah dengan warna-warna yang melambangkan Taj Mahal di sore hari. Siluetnya pun unik dan struktural, cocok untuk para fashionista yang mengidamkan dress yang berbeda dari biasanya.

Dwi Iskandar kemudian menampilkan koleksinya yang bertajuk "Move On". Rangkaian busana yang ditampilkan saat itu merupakan dominasi cocktail dress bersiluet mini dengan warna hitam serta abu-abu, dengan aksen struktural atau zipper yang cocok untuk perempuan masa kini yang chic.

Last but not least, Yunita Kosasih menampilkan koleksi yang fun dengan tema "School Lady". Menurut saya, sebenarnya frasa yang tepat bukanlah "lady", karena koleksi yang ditampilkan mencerminkan anak-anak kecil di masa sekolah yang cheerful dan playful. Inspirasi ini diterjemahkan ke dalam bentuk rok lebar, siluet gembung, aksesori yang unik dan seru, serta dominasi warna cerah. Bahkan para model yang biasanya mengenakan high heels, kali ini tidak mengenakan apapun di kaki mereka kecuali sepasang kaus kaki putih yang semata kaki yang simpel. Keceriaan tersebut sungguh pas untuk menutup show APPMI hari ini.

JFW2010/2011: APPMI (I)

Fashion show dari APPMI (Asosiasi Perancang Pengusaha Mode Indonesia) yang pertama diadakan dalam rangkaian acara Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 sebenarnya tidak terlalu menarik minat saya. Maklum, saya bukan pemerhati mode Muslim. Namun saat saya melihat model-model berseliweran di atas panggung dengan paduan busana yang meriah dan etnik, saya langsung terhisap akan pesona busana Muslim yang ditawarkan para desainer APPMI dalam show tersebut.

Irna Mutiara tampil paling pertama dengan koleksinya yang bertajuk "Romantic Return". Terinspirasi dari gaya para putri Persia yang elegan, sang desainer menawarkan gaun-gaun panjang semata kaki dengan hiasan emas di berbagai sudut. Yuyuk Nurmaisyah, walaupun agak berbeda dari koleksi Irna, tetap mengusung tema kemewahan dalam koleksi "Garden Luxury". Ia juga menawarkan gaun panjang semata kaki dengan aksen yang lebih simpel dan sederhana, dibalut dalam warna-warna hangat seperti orange, merah, dan khaki.

Yuyuk Nurmaisyah

Koleksi berikutnya datang dari Najua Yanti dengan tema "Shining On". Sang desainer menawarkan rancangan busana Muslim yang sedikit lebih kasual dengan adanya tunik longgar, lengan lebar, dan celana panjang dari berbagai bahan seperti chiffon crepe, lycra, dan kain tenun Troso yang berwarna cerah. Gaun panjang rancangannya terlihat sangat flowy saat dikenakan model, mengisyaratkan kenyamanan dalam rancangan Najua.

Koleksi yang menarik datang dari Nuniek Mawardi dengan tema "Aerial", mengambil inspirasi dari suku Indian di Amerika dan suku Sumba di Nusa Tenggara; perpaduan dua budaya masyarakat. Sang desainer menyajikan gaun-gaun panjang semata kaki yang meriah dan kaya akan detail dan ornamen-ornamen unik. Warna yang ditawarkan juga beragam namun tetap membentuk satu kesatuan. Yang tidak kalah menarik adalah ornamen di tiap kerudung yang menarik perhatian karena perpaduan bahannya dan desainnya yang berbeda.

Nuniek Mawardi

Selanjutnya ada Hannie Hananto yang menampilkan koleksi bertajuk "Travelodge" yang tak kalah unik, karena menggabungkan motif batik Indonesia dengan motif porselen Cina dalam tiap garis desain gaun-gaun panjangnya. Ia memadukan busana rancangannya dengan sandal bermodel simpel, seakan sedang menjalankan suatu ekspedisi. Berbeda dari koleksi desainer sebelumnya, koleksi Nuniek tampil dengan warna-warna yang menenangkan seperti biru, khaki, dan putih.

Koleksi Savitri yang bertema "Catch Your Eyes" hadir dengan warna-warna earth tone seperti coklat tua, hijau rumput, dan jingga. Pemakaian kain tenun dan chiffon sangat terlihat dalam setiap busana rancangannya, begitu juga dengan motif garis-garis yang kembali in dalam dunia mode.

Koleksi terakhir datang dari Dian Pelangi dengan tema "Estranged". Menurut saya, koleksi ini lah yang paling etnik dan eksotik. Setiap busana memiliki siluet yang tidak biasa, juga volume dan campuran warna dan motif Batik yang kaya. Tiap model mengenakan headpiece yang unik di kepala mereka, juga aksesori yang menarik seperti tumpukan bangles di tangan tiap model dan kalung-kalung mewah untuk melengkapi tiap busana. Untuk menutup koleksi Savitri, Marshanda muncul memeragakan busana rancangan sang desainer dengan megahnya, mengundang tepuk tangan para penonton.

Setelah acara berakhir, asumsi saya tentang busana Muslim sedikit banyak berubah. saya menyadari bahwa busana Muslim ternyata bisa diinterpretasikan dengan lebih stylish, mewah, dan elegan. Sungguh cocok bagi perempuan Muslim masa kini yang tidak hanya ingin tampil gaya, namun juga membuktikan eksistensi diri mereka lewat mode.

JFW2010/2011: BNI & Cita Tenun Indonesia

Saat saya memasuki fashion tent, tempat dilaksanakannya sebagian besar pagelaran busana dalam rangkaian acara Jakarta Fashion Week tahun ini, saya menemukan jajaran boks emas dengan pita cantik di tiap barisan tempat duduk pengunjung. Boks itu ternyata berisi coklat-coklat kecil, persembahan dari BNI bagi setiap pengunjung show malam itu. Masalah keterlambatan acara--yang semestinya sudah dimulai dari sejam sebelumnya--jadi tidak terlalu berarti.

Show kali ini merupakan persembahan dari BNI dan Cita Tenun Indonesia dengan tema "Cita Swarna Bumi Sriwijaya", menampilkan 10 koleksi dari 10 desainer ternama Indonesia, yaitu Chossy Latu, Denny Wirawan, Era Soekamto, Luwi Saluadji, Oka Diputra, Oscar Lawalata, Priyo Oktaviano, Sebastian Gunawan, Stephanus Hamy, dan Tayada. Semuanya menggunakan bahan kain tradisional seperti songket Palembang dan tenun Blongsong yang ditransformasi menjadi busana masa kini yang memiliki daya pakai tinggi dan up to date untuk tiap koleksi. Memang ini adalah hasil kerja sama para desainer dengan para penenun tradisional dalam industri mode yang dibantu oleh BNI agar kain tradisional tanah air bisa semakin dikenal para pelaku mode dan fashionista, juga agar para penenun dan pengusaha kain tradisional bisa mengembangkan usahanya dan semakin sejahtera.

Stephanus Hamy tampil paling awal dengan tema "Swarna Dipa". Ia mengubah kain tenun Blongsong menjadi busana yang feminin, terbukti dari rok lebar dan dress yang jatuh di bawah dada. Tayada dengan tema "Contradictive" menampilkan koleksi yang playful dan sangat muda. Warna-warna berani seperti merah cabai, biru tua, sampai warna yang lebih soft seperti biru muda dan pink dipadukan ke dalam hot pants, summer dress, bolero, dan atasan lainnya yang terlihat sangat wearable.

Koleksi selanjutnya datang dari Sebastian Gunawan dengan label Bubble Girl, label yang ditujukan untuk anak-anak perempuan yang ingin tampil gaya namun juga tidak melupakan sisi fun dan playful. Model-model cilik bermunculan satu persatu, melenggok dengan genitnya, membuat setiap penonton, termasuk para sosialita dan editor, tersenyum girang melihatnya.

Selanjutnya ada koleksi Era Soekamto dengan tema "Cakrawala", menampilkan cocktail dresses serta luaran yang dewasa, chic, dan terkesan kuat. Warna-warna yang disajikan adalah warna-warna hangat seperti jingga, merah tua, dan ungu tua, yang benar-benar mengingatkan saya pada warna langit saat senja. Ada 2 hal yang menarik dalam koleksinya, yakni berbagai embellishments antik di busana-busana rancangannya serta aksen unik pada bagian pundak yang membuat tiap rancangannya berbeda dan desirable.

Chossy Latu kemudian mengajak kita kembali ke masa lalu, ke era neo-klasik di belahan barat dengan kolek yang bertajuk "Songket the New Look". Sang desainer sukses mengimplementasikan kain songket ke dalam bentuk dress dan berbagai atasan bergaya vintage, semua dengan nuansa hitam-putih.

Masih berada dalam atmosfir masa lalu, Denny Wirawan juga menampilkan koleksi bergaya vintage, namun dengan nuansa yang sedikit berbeda, yaitu dansa, dengan tema "Retro Stile Romantico". Model-model dengan rambut yang menggembung ke atas berjalan dengan gaun pesta rancangan Denny yang colorful dan genit, sampai muncullah gaun yang memanjang di bagian belakang dengan atasan bulu-bulu yang menjadi klimaks dari koleksinya.

Selanjutnya ada Priyo Oktaviano dengan labelnya yang edgy, Spous. Tak bisa dipungkiri lagi, koleksinya merupakan yang paling menonjol dari koleksi desainer lain yang ikut berpartisipasi dalam acara tersebut. Parade singkat model yang mengenakan busana rancangan desainer senior ini benar-benar menghibur para penonton dengan desainnya yang berbeda dan berkarakter. Tiap paduan busana seakan memiliki ceritanya sendiri. Diiringi musik yang terdengar etnik sebagai latar, karakter tiap busana menyeruak semakin kuat. Dalam koleksinya kali ini, Priyo seperti ingin mengajak kita berkeliling dunia melewati Meksiko, Tibet, sampai Jepang. Kimono rancangannya pun mendapat sambutan hangat dari para penonton.

Tak lama kemudian, penonton mendapat kejutan dari Rio Febrian yang menyanyikan lagu "Indonesia Pusaka" diiringi suara biola yang merdu. Model-model pria pun keluar dari balik panggung, memeragakan koleksi rancangan Luwi Saluadji yang menawarkan alternatif bergaya formal bagi para pria dengan atasan dari bahan kain tenun.

Oscar Lawalata Culture menyusul dengan garis desainnya yang tetap soft dan longgar, mengisyaratkan kenyamanan bagi para pemakainya. Last but not least, ada penampilan dari Oka Diputra yang menampilkan berbagai macam cocktail dresses dengan warna berani serta heels yang terkesan provokatif, mencerminkan wanita yang kuat, namun tetap elegan dan stylish.

Setelah semua desainer selesai memamerkan koleksi karyanya masing-masing, saya menyadari bahwa kain tradisional tanah air memiliki begitu banyak potensi. Yang tadinya hanya sebagai kain untuk acara adat saja, kini bisa dibawa ke berbagai acara, baik formal maupun non-formal karena konsepnya yang sudah ready-to-wear. Sungguh membanggakan melihat insan mode tanah air menggunakan kain tradisional dalam koleksi mereka. Yang lebih membanggakan lagi adalah hasil kolaborasi ini tidak hanya menguntungkan satu pihak saja, tapi juga menguntungkan para pengusaha dan penenun di kampung sana, yang berarti memajukan Indonesia juga.

JFW2010/2011: Oscar Lawalata & Laura Miles

Walaupun agak telat dari jadwal yang ditetapkan, peragaan busana Oscar Lawalata yang dijadwalkan berlangsung Pk 19.00 hari ini tetap ditunggu-tunggu banyak pecinta mode dan sosialita Jakarta dalam acara Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011. Sang desainer senior kali ini berkolaborasi dengan desainer tekstil Laura Miles dari Inggris, thanks to British Council yang mempertemukan mereka di acara International Young Creative Enterpreneur (IYCE) Fashion Award tahun 2009.

Oscar Lawalata merupakan salah satu perancang busana yang konsisten dalam mengimplementasikan kain tradisional ke dalam garis-garis desainnya, sedangkan Laura telah bekerja sama dengan desainer ternama seperti Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Hussein Chalayan, serta label-label kelas atas seperti Chanel dan Louis Vuitton. Perpaduan dua pelaku mode ini menghasilkan koleksi dengan tema The End to the Beginning: The Cacoon Chronicle yang begitu memikat, tanpa melupakan salah satu budaya tanah air yang kaya, yakni kain tenun.

Saat model pertama muncul dari balik panggung, saya tahu bahwa saya akan menyukai seluruh koleksi sang desainer kali ini. Benar saja, rok-rok serta blus dan tunik dengan siluet longgar dan konstruktif terus bermunculan, menyusul paduan busana sebelumnya. Seluruh dahi setiap model diwarnai hitam pekat, dan rambut mereka ditata menjadi bob kribo yang kaku, menambah ketegasan koleksi tersebut.

Dari koleksi ini, saya berasumsi bahwa Oscar Lawalata menginginkan wanita yang mengenakan busananya merasa nyaman dengan rancangannya, tanpa melupakan sisi edgy dan fashionable. Tiap busana memiliki sisi lembut, sederhana, namun juga tegas dan unik. Warna-warna yang ditawarkan juga beragam, mulai dari warna-warna berani seperti merah menyala sampai warna lembut seperti biru laut dan beige. Tak ketinggalan juga motif tenun yang beragam, garis-garis, juga adanya tekstur dan teknik yang berbeda-beda sehingga membuat setiap pieces unik. Hal yang juga menarik adalah sepatu dengan hak tebal dari bahan kain tenun yang menjadi center of attention.

Koleksi Oscar membuat para hadirin yang menyaksikan peragaannya menyadari bahwa potensi kain tradisional tanah air sangat besar dalam industri mode. Sang desainer dapat membuat kain tenun yang diolah secara tradisional menjadi sebuah busana siap pakai yang wearable dan mengikuti tren masa kini. Diharapkan dengan ini, para pekerja kain tenun tradisional bisa semakin diberdayakan dan mode tanah air bisa semakin dikenal khalayak ramai.

Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011: Menuju Jakarta, Kota Mode Dunia

Siapa fashionista yang tidak tahu istilah 'kota mode dunia'? Kota-kota besar seperti New York, London, Paris, dan Milan akan langsung terlontar dalam benak mereka bila mendengar ungkapan tersebut. Terang saja, sudah bertahun-tahun keempat kota tersebut dijadikan pusat mode dunia, di mana para desainer papan atas gencar mengadakan pagelaran koleksinya tiap tahun di kota -kota itu tiap kali fashion week dimulai. Para editor ternama, buyer, dan selebriti A-list sudah pasti tidak akan melewatkan acara tersebut.

Ibu kota kita juga tidak mau ketinggalan. Seperti yang kita tahu, mode di Indonesia mengalami perkembangan pesat dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Pagelaran busana dari para desainer yang mendapat apresiasi hangat serta lahirnya nama-nama baru dalam industri mode tanah air merupakan bukti bahwa Indonesia, dan Jakarta sebagai ibu kotanya, patut diperhitungkan dalam dunia mode, juga menandakan bahwa industri mode tanah air semakin kokoh walaupun dunia sedang dilanda ketidakpastian ekonomi.

Salah satu wujud nyata dari perkembangan mode tanah air tersebut adalah diadakannya Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 dengan tema "Styling Modernity". Apa maksud di balik tema tersebut?

“Tema ini dipilih karena Jakarta Fashion Week sejatinya dimaksudkan sebagai suatu wadah yang dapat memfasilitasi sebuah dialog antara kekayaan fashion nusantara, termasuk keragaman tekstil tradisional dan kreasi modern,” ujar Baslir Djamal, Ketua Umum JFW 2010/2011.

Acara ini merupakan acara yang melanjutkan kesuksesan JFW tahun-tahun sebelumnya yang akan menjadi pusat perhatian para pelaku industri mode serta fashionista tanah air tahun ini, sekaligus menjadi acara yang akan menyajikan kiblat tren mode di Indonesia ke depannya. Lebih dari 100 desainer tanah air ternama akan meramaikan pagelaran ini, di antaranya: Carmanita, Era Soekamto, Lenny Agustin, Oscar Lawalata, Rebecca Ing, Stephanus Hamy, Valentino Napitupulu, Ghea Panggabean, Edward Hutabarat, Priyo Oktaviano, dan Eddy Betty. Tak lupa juga brand-brand anak muda yang sudah cukup lama dikenal seperti Danjyo/Hiyoji, Vahada, Kleting, dan Cotton Ink turut meramaikan acara mode tahunan ini.

Acara JFW 2010/2011 ini bertujuan untuk memajukan dunia mode Indonesia dan bertekad menjadikan Indonesia dan Jakarta sebagai pusat mode di Asia. Tak hanya itu, dengan adanya desainer yang mengeksplorasi bahan-bahan kain nusantara seperti tenun dalam koleksinya, pagelaran ini juga bermaksud untuk mengenalkan juga melestarikan budaya asli Indonesia kepada para pemerhati mode baik lokal maupun mancanegara.

Dengan diadakannya Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 yang melanjutkan kesuksesan di tahun-tahun sebelumnya, kiblat mode tanah air bisa semakin maju ke depan dan semakin diakui dunia. Tak hanya New York, London, Paris, dan Milan saja yang masuk dalam jajaran kota mode dunia. Diharapkan, Jakarta pun bisa menjadi pusat mode yang akan selalu ditunggu-tunggu kiblatnya oleh para pemerhati mode dunia.

JFW2010/2011: APPMI (III)

Hari ini saya menyempatkan diri untuk menonton babak terakhir dari sesi APPMI selama pekan mode Jakarta Fashion Week 2010/2011 ini, yang menampilkan fashion show dari 6 perancang ternama, yaitu Agnes Budhisurya, Geraldus Sugeng, Gregorius Vici, Hengky Kawilarang, Misan, dan Susan Zhuang.

Para pengunjung langsung disambut dengan indahnya rangkaian gaun rancangan Hengki Kawilarang yang terinspirasi dari alam Borneo dengan tema "Wild Romance". Seperti judul koleksinya kali ini, tiap gaun mengingatkan saya akan rambat tanaman dan keliaran di balik pohon-pohon. Hengki merangkai itu semua dengan indah ke dalam gaun pesta dengan aksen bahan chiffon yang menyerupai jumputan daun dengan siluet feminin yang berkesan romantis.

Susan Zhuang menampilkan koleksinya yang bertajuk "Vintage Treasures" yang terinspirasi masa tahun 50 sampai 60-an. Busana rancangannya memang menggambarkan mode pada era itu, dilihat dari siluet-siluetnya yang berpotongan di pinggang atas, membentuk lekukan indah di bagian wanita tersebut serta warna-warna pilihannya yang klasik.

Sungguh koleksi yang terkesan mewah.

Nuansa yang sedikit lebih lembut disajikan oleh Rebecca Ing dengan koleksi bertajuk "Bewitching". Warna-warna yang ditampilkan cukup memanjakan mata dan terkesan girly (violet, biru langit, pink, ungu). Koleksinya terinspirasi dari keanggunan dewi Yunani yang lembut namun tetap tegas. Rebecca Ing membawa hal itu ke dalam koleksinya melalui teknik draperi dan kerut di tiap gaun yang sangat terlihat dengan bahan satin warna bergradasi, membuat siluetnya bervolume dan berkesan feminin.

Gregorius Vici kembali memunculkan romantisme dengan koleksinya yang bertema "Escape for Love". Dengan musik eclectic yang upbeat, model-model berjalan memeragakan gaun-gaun rancangan sang desainer yang edgy dengan teknik jahit yang beragam (draperi, kerut, tumpuk), siluet loose, namun dengan motif tenun tradisional dari Jepara, Bali, serta NTT. Aksesori yang digunakan juga menarik perhatian saya, seperti kalung bermodel kuda lumping yang juga menggunakan bahan tenun dan ikat pinggang yang menjuntai-juntai.

I love the way things are.

Gosh! I feel terrible! But really, i have my reasons.
My laptop was stolen. Get it?

MY LAPTOP WAS STOLEN.

It's a long story (and i felt sad and angry at the same time just thinking of it so please excuse me for not telling), but yeah it's true. My laptop was stolen by some slacker-burglar-bitch when i was going out. I completely lost my mind the second i heard the story from my mom. And i cried. Oh man, i cried.

The thing is i know the laptop doesn't come cheap, but i didn't feel so sad about it. I feel sad because HALF OF MY LIFE WAS PLANTED IN THAT LAPTOP. All that memorable high school photos, all my portfolios, my CVs, my photographs, my 120-pages-and-still-going novel, my songs, my applications...

IT'S ALL GONE.

Pardon my language. I rarely say things like this in my blog, but i feel like i have to. Please forgive this miserable girl who had lost her love (laptop). Téo Jasmin is a freelance designer "for whom modifications of digital and photographic works have no more secrets, thinks that the market offer isn't really attractive in terms of wall decoration. Thus she decides to start creating digitally printed large format canvas on wooden chassis and quickly makes a staggering impression at her first Maison et Objet fair participation".

When i first took a peek at the website, i fell in love at once! The printed stuffs are unique and perfect for people who loves contemporary pop art decor (like me).

Hiya guys, how you all doing? I assume you're all having fun, maybe in a local cafe with your friends, or maybe go for a vacation in some tropical island with your family. Well, good for you, 'coz i won't have anything interesting to tell, considering the fact that i'm stucked here in my house and it's only a matter of time for me to go 'cracked' (by that, i mean 'crazy').

So.. i'm back to the old 'me-enjoying-holiday-like-i'm-10-years-old'. Well, you know... playing video games, watching cartoons, reading comics, and everything that'll continuously make me stupid--it's happening slowly, but it's happening for sure.

I realize i'm falling into some sort of a trap. Two weeks ago i still did the 'eat & exercise' thing, now i do the 'eat & get lazy' thing. I'm eating while i'm doing my thing (playing video games, watching cartoons, reading comics, blablabla). And that's not good.

However, in the other hand, i feel that it's a good thing. For months i haven't been able to watch TV easily, playing video games, read books other than school books, or whatever. I just.... study. Study so that i'll be accepted in my dream university...... *already, by the way*
Yeech. Now i feel terrible. Well, maybe i'll just get back to my comic (it's The Simpsons, by the way--love 'em to death) and enjoy being stupid. That's how you spend a holiday.

Eating at The Manhattan Fish Market with my mom and dad. Fisherman's giant fried platter is recommended. It consists fried prawns, fish, calamari, mushrooms with chips and garlic rice, and it costs quite reasonable.

I have quite a relationship with food, so intimate that i've had some friction with my ex about it *haha yeah i know*. I don't know, i just love to eat, so my diet never lasts more than a week. Eating together is the best way for a family to talk about everything.

At last, a post about my personal style!
Woohooo yeah oh yeah..

Yeah, i know, it's been sooo long. But again, don't blame me, blame the exams, SIMAK, and everything else. Yet i had conquered them all! I graduated from my high school with good grades and i got accepted at University of Indonesia! I'm so happy i ~~could die~~ decided to do a quick style shoot and post it.

Graduation Day & SIMAK UI Announcement

Today is the happiest day of my life (so far). Today is graduation day, and i felt so happy because i'd spent 3 years in my high school, i'd contributed quite a few things, i've got many great friends, met funny teachers, learnt many things, well.. you know, stuffs. But now i'm no high school student anymore. No more boring uniforms. But there'll be more responsibilities. I'm ready.

And the greatest thing about today is...

I'M NOW OFFICIALLY A COLLEGE STUDENT IN FISIP ILMU KOMUNIKASI UNIVERSITAS INDONESIA!!!!!

I don't have any other things to say. I'm just so happy that all my hard work has finally paid off! And i'm so grateful that i can make my mom and dad proud of their daughter. Nonetheless, it's all because of GOD. I'm weak, ugly, whatever, yet God has given me many many many uncountable things i thought i don't even deserve. So, thank You, and like that song the band RAN sing: "GOD, i will always love You".

The word "100%" never sound this good! All the kids in my school are officially graduated, including ME!
HELL YEAH! No more exams, no more boring teachers, no more long torture of homeworks (which i rarely do), and time for a change!

Three years of high school really changed my life. Seriously, if you ever doubt those people (for example:your parents) who said that "High school was the best time of my life", stop. STOP, really. You've got to believe them soon enough, because they're mostly right.

Well, enough for the blahblahblahs. Pictures talk better than words. I'll surely miss high school!

SIMAK is Coming and I Cut My Hair

Hello again, guys. Today i've just finished all those try-outs filled with disordered or, perhaps, confused feeling of mine. Casually, i don't really care about it. It's not something you should burst about--it's just a try-out.

Ehm, i'm sorry that i sound like a snot, but really, i'm kinda tired of all these studying and stuffs, although i DO care about the upcoming SIMAK (it's this Sunday!). I realize i'd been studying all the time. All my friends said that i'm pushing my self too hard, but again, i don't care. I just do what i do and hopefully, i get what i want. In this case, i prefer studying for SIMAK to studying for school exams and blahblahblahs. Not that they're not important, it's just that.... well, they're not as important as SIMAK.
Okay, pretend i didn't say anything.

Anyway, i've got a new haircut. You know, i'm the kind of person who gets bored easily with just about anything, especially hair. If i have long hair, i'll want to chop chop chop. If i have short hair, i'll wait patiently to grow it back. So this is just an example of my unusual nature: a stack of new hair photos from the webcam.

Hey fellow bloggers and readers, what's up? Okay, don't look at me like that. I know i haven't been fair to you, i mean, i've been short of new posts lately. Don't blame it on me, though. Blame the national exams and the upcoming SIMAK UI of which i've been working my ass off (and do you notice a tiny bit of my English improvement, after all those studying i've done? No? Oh, well).

Without further ado, i'd like to post a tiny dab of my go-to outfit. I had told you in the very last post (the last post before the oh-so-very-boring national exams) that i've had quite an interest with tailored pants, giving the reason that they're comfortable (unlike that pair of skinny jeans that squeezes your thighs), different, and give you the exact freedom to move your feet around.Recently, my interest have grown into a more mysterious kind of attraction. I want to have them in so many different colors. I want to wear them anywhere. I want to just make them my new 'jeans'.

Tika & the Dissidents: The Headless Songstress

I ordered something from the internet 3 or 4 days ago, and it's already arrived today!

Okay, it's Tika & the Dissidents: The Headless Songstress CD. I know it's late, but i've just known this local indie band from MySpace 1 month ago. When i heard the songs, i immediately fell in love! I love Tika's distinctive & seductive voice; i love the sounds of the music; i love the dark and sarcastically absurd lyrics; i love 'em. So, i quickly ordered the CD.

The best part of the CD is, of course, the songs. But i also adore the creative packaging of the CD. It's different, unlike any other albums i've seen. And for the price of Rp 38.000, it's really worth buying, especially if you're excited about the band.

Seventeen Indonesia is (Really) Gone

Seventeen was one of my favourite teen fashion magazines in Indonesia, because of its idealism, quirkiness, excitement, and the 'real girls' concept (every girls could take part as a model, no matter what size you are).

I once had a short holiday internship there for about 1 month. I never thought i was going to be picked, but there i was, seeing the business of a teen magazine--which was my fave--right in front my eyes. The people were really nice, just as i thought, and i got so many lessons and unforgettable experiences there. A one-month internship there was what really had me bursting the same sentence: "I WANT TO BE A FASHION JOURNALIST".

So imagine, how am i feeling when the magazine announced in the September 2009 issue that it's their last issue; it's their 'goodbye'.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. Even though i could, i just couldn't understand back then. It was so urgent, like an unwanted accident. I mean, what happened? And what would happen to all the readers, all the subscribers, including me?!

No answers. I completely understood. It's confidential; top secret of the company. It was just sad.

But hey, Mbak Imesh (the editor-in-chief) said in the magazine that it's not a sad goodbye, but a 'whole new page' of something new. And at least she said goodbye, not just run away without saying anything. So, it's okay.

Out & About: Flea Market in fX

Today my besties and i went to the Flea Market : Clearance and Garage Sale in fX Lifestyle X'nter. It's located in the F3 Atrium of the building. The event was merely okay; well, it didn't have many tenants like what i had expected. But it's great to see a march of unique local brands like Mimsy, OwlandCat Boutique, Miya Loft, and many more in one place, with a very wide range of price. I found a stripe long-sleeved shirt that costs only Rp 10.000 (which i bought) but i also found a See by Chloé lace dress for Rp 400.000 (too bad i didn't buy it because i didn't bring that much money--i gotta save up for upcoming sale events! :P).

Guess the fabric. Anyone can tell?

I'm not really sure what the fabric is, and NO, it's not leather, or a synthetic one as usual. I bought this not only because it looks like leather (it's true, all my friends thought it's leather), when actually it's not, but also it won't tear down like the cheap synthetic one; OF COURSE, i think you don't want your favourite fashion item to be just a 'fling' just because the fabric is already disrupted--even though you've only been wearing it for a couple of weeks.

Out & About: Lomography Exhibition by Lomonesia

After studying, i straightly went to Grand Indonesia just to get my hands on the fabulous Rotiboys. Yes, ROTIBOY has just opened in Grand Indonesia and the store is currently holding a 50% DISCOUNT on the buns (until 22 Feb). Yum! No wonder the line was sooo long. As time went by, more customers were coming to experience the delicateness of the buns. And i noticed there were even some customers who had never tasted it before. A woman complained that the outer side of the bun is crispy, but that's what everybody's looking for. And another woman even ordered CHOCOLATE FLAVOUR, while Rotiboy--you know it--only serves its specialty, the buns (and Pao Que Ijo, apparently).

I ordered 6 buns, and OH MY.. the smell was so tempting!

And then i remembered that there was an exhibition held by Lomonesia, so i headed there. The first thing i saw was this giant red cubical alphabets, read "LOMOGRAPHY". Cool.

I admit i don't really understand about lomography. I have my Canon 400D but i had never been too interested in lomo, but seeing this exhibiton has made me thinking about owning a Holga, or maybe Colorsplash camera.

This one is my favourite.

Anyway, got new wedges from Mom :)

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY & CHINESE NEW YEAR!

My school celebrated Valentine's Day in the usual 'every year' simple way. All of the students had to wear outfits according to the dresscode. Each class had a different dresscode; my class' was *blah* FORMAL.
Gosh, why can't i get the fun dresscode, like DRESS TO THE 80's, or HIP HOP?
But it's okay. I love playing dress-ups, whatever the code is.

P.S.
I didn't take any pictures of the chocolates that i got because i ate them all with my friends. Sorry *sinister laugh*

Okay, don't freak out. I've just modified my blog layout, changing from pale pink to plain white. And if you had been a kind reader of my blog *wish you are* you would notice the surprising change of my blog title. What happened?

Here's the thing. I started this blog in a 'really-bored-on-holiday' condition, wanting to do something other than just sit and stare at my laptop playing The Sims 3, so i started this blog spontaneously. "Quirk It Out" first came into my head and i just typed it on without thinking, then i made the layout with a pinky peachy feeling--whatever that is. Soon i realized that the title and the 'oh-so-girly' layout didn't really suit me, so today i decided to change it, and i mean CHANGE.

The layout, widgets, etc. haven't really been completely modified. I'm still trying to find a better way to make my blog more eye-satisfying and not just plain boring white. A damask background, maybe? We'll see.

Agyness Deyn Fell Down (Twice) On the Runway

Taking of the shoes on the runway = interesting show

When Agyness Deyn fell down TWICE when walking down the runway, fashion suddenly became fun again.
Anway, she took the shoes off on her way back, then tweeted:

"1st show of fashion week! Took a tumble! Got up! Fell again. Should have stayed down the 1st time. Twice! WTF! Ouch my knees!"

It's far from embarrassing; in fact, it's cool, because--HEY--it's Aggy.
